Nordland county strengthens preparedness in business and industry

The County Council of Nordland is providing over 900,000 NOK in support for the project "Preparation for SMEs in Nordland".

The goal is to make small and medium-sized enterprises better equipped to handle crises and contribute to society's preparedness.

The project will be implemented by Sentrum Næringshage AS in Sandnessjøen and will contribute to strengthening cooperation between municipalities and businesses throughout the county.

"We know that business plays a crucial role when society is hit by crises. Companies in transport, energy, logistics, technology and food supply are essential for local communities to function. Therefore, we must ensure that small and medium-sized businesses are also well prepared," says County Councilor for Industry Svein Øien Eggesvik (Sp).

The project comes in the wake of the Total Defence Year 2026, where increased focus has been placed on how the public and private sectors together will strengthen society's resilience.

    Statistics Norway (SSB) released population projections on Friday.

    Continued population growth, strong population aging and a larger and more established immigrant population are the main findings from the national population projections.

    According to the projection's main alternative, all counties, except Nordland, are expected to experience population growth up to 2050.

    In the period between 2026 and 2050, a population decline of approximately 7,400 people is expected in Nordland, one of the three counties in Northern Norway.

    In the other two counties, Troms and Finnmark, the population is expected to increase by approximately 4,700 and 1,200 people, respectively.

  • Increase in the number of laid-off workers in Nordland

    At the end of February, there were 2,072 fully unemployed people in Nordland. This represents 1.7 percent of the workforce. In addition to the fully unemployed, there were 601 job seekers on benefits and 1,006 partially unemployed job seekers. This brings Nordland to a total of 3,679 job seekers, which represents 3 percent of the workforce, NAV reports.
