Weight-management drugs claimed to be Wegovy and Ozempic are sold on the black market in Iceland, but it is impossible to say where they come from, reports RUV.

A substance said to be a powerful unapproved experimental drug is also widely sold on social media.

Rúna Hauksdóttir Hvannberg, CEO of Lyfjastofnun (Icelandic Medicines Agency), says it is extremely serious that people are injecting themselves with unknown substances.

On apps such as Telegram and Signal, drugs such as Wegovy and Ozempic are advertised alongside addictive medicines and illegal drugs. It is often specifically stated that the drugs are from a pharmacy and not counterfeit.
