The Sámi multi-artist Aarni Pieski (23) has been named ‘Young Artist of the Year’ by the international indigenous festival Riddu Riđđu in Troms, Northern Norway.

Pieski is from Utsjok (Ohcejohka) and Helsinki in Finland and works across performing arts, film, literature and visual arts. His artistry addresses the dynamics between identity, history and belonging with a main focus on queer Sámi perspectives.

"Aarni highlights stories and perspectives that we need more of – both in the Sámi public and in society at large," says Festival Director Sajje Solbakk.

The audience will have the opportunity to get to know Pieski's artistry during the festival, which takes place June 8-12.
